#TBT GA/FL

This week's #TBT goes to.....Georgia/ Florida game in 2012. I don't remember to much details, but I do remember 2 people had to ride in the back of a truck all the way to Florida and back, the weather being cloudy and windy, and most importantly GA WON!!!

We were maybe a mile out of town when something happened to the vehicle we were in (I don't really remember the details). So we went from a Yukon to a F150, so 2 people had to ride in the bed of the truck. I believe they had some fun back there...they even wrote a song about the trip. At the hotel, we had conjoined rooms. One of the rooms was a handicap room, so the room was plenty big for "activities." The boys made the TV table into a beer pong table.

(This was to the start of our first day.)

(Power Nap)

(First night out in Jacksonville.)

(At the Landing, some people had dressed up for Halloween.)

(Playing a little corn hole before the game.)

(Tailgating before the game.)
(Go Dawgs!!!)

(clearly divided)

Georgia won...It was awesome to win. As we were walking out of the stadium people were chanting.

(In the parking deck after the game.)

(At the landing after the game.)

We had a lot of fun on this trip...no one got in a fight, or arrested. I believe this was Alex and my first trip together. I would love to go back.

A Weekend in Birmingham

This weekend I ventured off to Birmingham, AL with my Aunt Gail and mom to see The Book of Mormon. We left Friday once I got out of class. We had to drive through a little winter mix (which I enjoyed...I like to watch it snow). We stayed in downtown Birmingham at The Tutwiler, which is a National Historic Landmark. The Lobby is filled with really photos from the explosion in growth of the city to the civil right movement. Everyone was very nice and helpful throughout our visit (even though they were super busy with 2 wedding parties, cheer leading competition, and 5k runners). I highly recommend staying at The Tutwiler.

(Street view of The Tutwiler)

(This is where we pulled up to valet.)

(The view from our room of the front of the hotel.)

(The sitting area in the room.)

(Our room was really nice!)

(The front doors to the hotel...original marble.)

(The lobby had coffee 24hrs :)  I just loved the cups. They had different mouths and the sleeves had different accessories. Come on Starbucks get with the cuteness.)

Friday night we ate at the hotel restaurant. (Above is the menu) We had the best time at dinner (it could be because we had some drinks in the room before coming down to dinner) . My mom and I split the pork ossobuco. It was served on cheese grits....yummy!!!

(Fried oysters...no picture of the pork ossobuco. We were so hungry we just started eating...sorry.)

Saturday, we took our time getting up and getting ready since the show wasn't until 2pm. The hotel breakfast was the best fee breakfast I have eaten...and it was on the 8th floor of the hotel. Once we checked out, we ventured to find a place for lunch that was close to the BJCC, which is where the show was playing. We found this place called, Uptown. It had a lot of restaurants.

We ate at Cantina Laredo, which is modern Mexican restaurant. I ordered Tacos De Barbacoa (slow-roasted brisket, with marinate onions, monterey jack cheese, & cilantro). It was amazing!!! My mom ordered Torta De Carnitas (griddle baked sandwich with slow-roasted pork, fried egg, apricot spread and goat cheese).

We got finished with lunch in perfect time to walk over to the BJCC. I enjoyed the show. (You do have to keep in mind that the writers of South Park wrote the show.)

Saturday night Alex came to Decatur to stay with me. Sunday morning, we got up and went to breakfast in downtown Decatur. Sweet Melissa's is the place to go for breakfast. I have been there many times (And my mom and aunt are regulars, every Saturday morning).

#TBT Merl

Spring....where are you? I am ready for warm weather. I wish I could "fly" South for the Winter just like the birds. In thinking about Spring, I remembered a couple of years ago when we found a baby squirrel. My mom found it in our backyard. It just crawled onto her shoe. It was so tiny. It just wanted to curl up and sleep in those early days.

The squirrel was so small we had to feed it puppy formula with a syringe. This was like having a new born baby. We had to heat up the milk and she would even cry for it.

Alex fell in love with the squirrel. He named it Merl, the squirrel. After that weekend, Alex took Merl to his house to care for it. His mom really liked having her around too. She would feed her and even give her a bath. Soon Merl spent her days on the screened in back porch. She would just jump from place to place, even on you.

Merl began to grow and get Wild! So when Merl became a "teenager" we decided to take her to the lake and build her a house.

(Merl jumped into my purse. She was ready to go to the lake.)

(Just hanging around while Alex built her a house.)

(Not sure this was the safest set up!)

Merl stayed in her little house for a couple of weeks. I am guessing she found a friend and lived happily ever after :)

Valentine's Weekend

It's Valentine's weekend....and you know what that means....everyone is going to share photos of flowers and gifts they receive from their special someone. AND their will be a lot of talk about 50 Shades of Grey. So to begin the weekend, I sat on Alex's bed watching him complete Micro homework (boring), but you got do what you got to do. Later that night, we met our friends Luke and Ansley for dinner at Amici in downtown Monroe. (Sorry- no pic of my Margarita pizza. It took for ever for our food to come out, that once it did I just began eating.)

(Strawberry Redds- my drink of choice)

(Photo Shoot- Alex doesn't like his picture taken:) )

Saturday, we went to our friends Luke and Ansley's house. Our plan was to cook out and watch a movie. Ansley had to show a house down the street, so I tagged along. I enjoy looking at houses. This one was very interesting. It was a really log cabin, but it was like we walked into a house in Arizona. Their was tile (pink tile) throughout the whole house. Cacti were carved into the stairs. (I wish now I took pictures.) But needless to say the people will continue their search for a house. So when we were finished, we decided to go to Barberitos in Athens. It was awesome!!!

We also made a sweet snack and coffee when we got back to the house.
These are supper easy to make. You just need pretzels, Hershey kisses (any type and you can even use Rolos), and M&Ms (I have also used pecans). Place the pretzels out on a cookie sheet, unwrap the kisses and place them on the pretzels. Heat oven to 200 degrees and cook for 3-5 minutes (keep an eye on them you don't want to burn the chocolate) and white chocolate melts faster. Once they are soft press a M&M into each kiss. Let cool to set.

#TBT First Valentines

I believe that Valentine's Day is a marketing day for companies. I think you should let your significant other know how much you love them all year round...and not with a cheesy giant bear. Personally I do not like the chocolate that comes in the heart shape boxes, and what is the point of a stuff animal when you are an adult (It just takes up space and collects dust.) I am so glad Alex and I are on the same page about this holiday. We always just spend our money doing something to spend time with each other.

BUT for our first Valentine's together, he surprised me and took me zip lining. He arranged everything and told me to wear jeans and tennis shoes. I had no idea until we pulled up at Lake Linear and he told me what we were doing. It was a lot of fun!!!

(We had to climb from the bottom platform to the top.)

(We zipped across the water, and you could go backwards.)

(We walked across swinging bridges.)

Weekend Fun!

After Friday's class. Alex and I left for the lake for the weekend. Saturday, Alex and I went fishing. The weather was not that bad when the boat wasn't moving or when we weren't in a wind storm. Of course we didn't catch anything. Later the afternoon, Alex wanted to go back out since apparently between 4 -5 was the time to fish. I decided not to go out this time, since it would be getting colder. Alex did catch this little fishie.

Saturday night Alex's parents joined us at the lake. We decided to eat at Buffingtons in downtown Milledgeville.

We love this local spot. We have eaten here several times and really enjoy the food. If you go, I recommend the Willie Nelson Quesadilla (it's not on the menu). BUT it's amazing! It has chicken, bacon, cheese, and bbq sauce. Yummy!

(The Willie Nelson)

Sunday, Alex and his dad got up and went fishing around 7:30 am. I said no thanks. I love to sleep in. This is the fish Alex caught.

Sunday the weather was perfect. I would be happy if that was the weather for the rest of winter. I enjoyed the day just sitting outside and soaking up the sun.

Sunday, as I drove home the sky was beautiful. (It was better in person.)

Special Edition

After class today I wanted to go to Trader Joes, so I used google maps to get me there. Well I ended up at the cool new find...The Forum. And as soon as I pulled in I saw GiGi's Cupcakes. I love cupcakes. There is also a GiGi's in Athens. That is where I knew the place from. So of course I had to get a cupcake!!!
