5th Grade Field Trip

Today the 5th grade classes took a trip to the Civil War Museum in Kennesaw. It was amazing that the majority of my students had some type of phone. It kept them entertained for our hour ride to Kennesaw. We fit 7 classes on 4 buses.

Once we were at the museum, the classes split up with different tour guides. Our first tour took us by a small creek, and the railroad.

(Here are the students walking to the creek.)

(Shack by the railroad.)

(Trains kept coming through town. The kids seemed like they have never seen a train before. I believe we heard at least 4.)

(One of the tour guides demonstrated how the soldiers loaded and shot their weapons.)

(Inside the museum another tour guide explained how trains were first used and made. How are some of the wooden pieces.)

(We also watched a movie about the Southern train the General. The General was stolen by Union soldiers.)

(They don't make sack lunches like they use too, no chips or cookies. They just through in apples, baby carrots, ranch, and PB & J sandwiches.)

By the end of the tour, it was already 12:45. We had to wait until we got back to the school to eat lunch. I was so hungry, and so were the students. I had been hungry since 10:00 when we arrived at the museum. I guess my body is use to snack time:)

SpRiNg BrEaK

Last week was my Spring Break for GGC, but most of the weather didn't express spring. It was a much needed break from school and field. This was actually my last spring break as a student!!! My spring break was not as eventful as some of the people's Snap Chats I received, but I got to make appointments that you usually don't have time to do with class and field.

The first weekend Alex and I, along with his parents and Grandmother (Nana), went to the lake. It was a nice relaxing weekend. Saturday Alex's mom, Nana, and I went shopping at the Goodwill at Lake Oconee. It is always hard for me to look through all those clothes. They are only sorted by color, so you really have to look through all of it. I spent my time going through the jeans, which is still hard since I only know my jean size for American Eagle jeans. We also stopped by a Habitat for Humanity place. I was able to find a couple of books. One book that I am excited to read is, Educating Esme: Diary of a Teacher's First Year. The author writes about her first year teaching 5th grade in an inter city school (which I thought I could relate to since I am in 5th grade at a Title 1 school). While we were shopping, Alex and his dad went fishing. Alex got a nice size fish!

I am always posting pictures of our Green Egg meals, so here are a few bbq wings that we made! (Their was a whole bowl full.) These are my favorite!!!

Alex is starting his own business....Full Force Mobile Detailing & Pressure Washing. So he bought this awesome soap gun. It looks like it just snowed on your car. It is pretty cool!!!

Since I am usually in class or at the Elementary school, I never have the time to shop. On Monday, I went to the Dress Up in downtown Norcross. Then I ventured to The Forum, which I discovered a couple of weeks ago. (Check out Trader Joes, Gigi's Cupcakes, Jasons Deli, and Swoozies)

One of my favorite stores, Swoozie's is a #whitegirls heaven. As soon as you walk in it is bright, colorful, and monograms everywhere. When you walk in you just want one of everything. This is a great place to get gifts...birthdays, house warming, teacher gifts, ect.

When I lived in Athens I loved Jason's Deli. They have HUGE baked potatoes and the best broccoli cheese soup. I was supper excited to get lunch.

On Wednesday, Alex came to Decatur to stay with me. That night we went to downtown Decatur to eat at Taco Mac. As we were driving into the downtown area, we noticed that the intersection was blocked by police cars. We parked and walked over to see what was happening. After a few minutes of standing there, the people in the street started to flick the police off and say F the police. We then knew that we didn't need to be apart of that. Alex looked at the news on his phone once we were at Taco Mac, and people were protesting a man who was shot in Dekalb.

Friday, as I drove to Alex's house, I stopped by the Donut King in Snellville. I have always wanted to go there. Last weekend, Alex's Nana had said she wanted a doughnut as big as her head, so I thought I would stop and get her some doughnuts. Of course, I got me some too!!! They were so good and for a good price. (I got a dozen for $9.) We stopped by Nana's house on our way to the lake. She was so excited.

Alex and I got to spend the weekend by ourselves at the lake. Saturday morning was so foggy. At some points you could not even see the houses across the lake. Once the fog lifted and it warmed up some, we went fishing on the lake. We caught 6-7 fish. When Alex was cleaning the fish, we saw fish eggs it was kinda cool.

Saturday night, We cook deer steaks on the green egg, squash, and green beans. It was a great dinner. We also watched Gone Girl. It is a good movie. For the first half of the movie, things aren't the way they appear.

On Sunday, we went fishing on the river. Wow, there was a lot of people out on that beautiful day. We woke up early to leave the lake and meet Alex's dad at the river. (I hate getting up early!) We only caught one fish, but I enjoyed the nice weather.

#TBT Bye Bye Bike

This week Alex sold his bike. He has had it since 2013. He decided to buy a bike to cut down on his cost of diesel. On nice days, he was able to ride his bike to school or work, and not his truck. We enjoyed riding it during the summer. We would ride around town to go to dinner, or even to the lake. We always talked about taking a drive to the mountain, but we never had the chance. I still have a place on my leg where I burnt it on the muffler:(

(Just taking pictures while riding. We were only going about 20 mph.)

(Selfie on the bike.)

I have not doubt that at some point Alex will get another bike, whether its a dirt bike or street bike. He has been riding since he was a kid, so its like in his blood.

Movie Weekend

This weekend was pretty laid back. Friday night we ate wings in Monroe with our friends Luke and Ansley. Just Wings is located in Monroe across from Zaxbys. Their wings are pretty good...(not as good as the wings we cook at the lake, but way better than those from Hooters.) We also went the cupcake place that is next door. (I love cupcakes!) Alex dug into the cupcakes before I could get a picture :(

Saturday night a group of us went to the Movie Tavern in Suwanee to celebrate a birthday. It has been a long time since Alex and I went to the movies. They have just gotten so expensive. It was our first time going to Movie Tavern, and honestly the outside of the theater looked like they took over a grocery store. (I don't think it was worth driving 45mins, but that is what you do for your friends.)

(The bar just inside the theater.)

We watched the movie Focus. It was a good movie. I believe the excitement about the Movie Tavern is the fact that you get to orders drinks and food during the movie. We use to sneak Chick-fil-a into the movies all the time. We ordered our food at the beginning of the movie, and I was so hungry that I kept watching the waiters walk around with food thinking it was mine. The fried pickles were really good, but we also shared nachos and those were not so good. They were cold. The chicken, black beans and other ingredients were not room temperature cold but right out of the refrigerator cold.

(No pictures of food, since we were watching a movie.)

Sunday, we did absolutely nothing. We were super lazy and just enjoyed having nothing to do and nowhere to go.
